Aaron's Real Opinions (Yikes!)

FEDERICO PENA IN EXCLUSIVE LONG-FORM INTERVIEW
09-30-05

One of Colorado's most distinguished public servants -- Federico F. Pena -- appears in the second of an exclusive two-part series with Aaron Harber on KBDI-TV Channel 12's "The Aaron Harber Show" this Friday, September 30th, at 9:00 pm, and this Sunday, October 2nd, at 2:00 pm.

Pena was Denver's Mayor from 1983 through 1991, and then became the United States Secretary of Transportation (1993 to 1997) and U.S. Secretary of Energy (1997 to 1998). Pena, an attorney, currently is a Managing Director of Vestar Capital Partners, a private equity investment firm he joined in 1998. Vestar is headquartered in New York and has offices in Denver, Boston, Paris, and Milan. The firm has completed 50 growth equity, management buyouts, and recapitalizations with an aggregate transaction value of approximately $17 billion. Vestar has $4.0 billion of equity capital under management of which close to a billion dollars currently is available for investment.

On the show, Pena candidly and critically discusses a wide range of topics, including: the Federal Government's faulty response to Hurricane Katrina, insurance issues related to disasters, Homeland Security weaknesses, failures of the political system and the state of politics today, the Taxpayer's Bill Of Rights (TABOR) and Colorado's upcoming Referenda C & D, transportation issues, energy policy and the lost opportunities represented by the recent energy bill.

For those who remember Pena while he was Mayor of Denver, many of his achievements will be familiar but another side of him is revealed in this interview as it is his first opportunity in Colorado, since leaving public office, to participate in such a one-on-one long-form interview. Pena is not shy about giving his opinions and consistently is assertive on the program in detailing his perspective. The program is a welcome reminder of how impressive Denver's Mayors have been in the past two decades.
