Aaron's Crazy Race

AARON'S LAST-MINUTE RACE ENTRY
DAY 6 -- Work Makes Working Out Impossible

I already knew today's challenge was simply to not regress too much. I had a full day scheduled with my TV show team as we were setting up new offices and expanding the staffing for both programs in which I was involved. The day was consumed with moving furniture, discussing assignments, and doing everything necessary to ensure everyone's comfort. I knew in advance there would be no opportunity to get any running-related exercise today. It was all anaerobic, at best.

One added element of excitement was that I found a person I knew and had trusted had stolen my mail. She had taken a number of bills from my credit card companies. My assumption was that she intended to use the accounts or steal information about them for nefarious purposes. I got some of the bills back but they had been paid anyway. I wasn't sure if I had suffered any losses because my credit card statements often had as many as 50 charge entries per month. I knew I would have to investigate to see if she somehow was able to use the cards. Fortunately, the bills did not have the expiration dates or security codes on them.

The big issue of the day, however, was the fact Holly's supposedly "secret" graduation ceremony was tomorrow. At Holly's school, the actual graduation ceremony always "floated" and changed from year to year but usually was held during the last two weeks of school. Holly and her 5th Grade brethren were supposed to be in the dark about the actual graduation date. Thanks to the mistakes made by a faculty member and a few parents -- all of whom marked the date on their calendars -- and thanks to the sleuthing abilities of some of the students, the entire 5th Grade class of 21 students knew exactly when graduation would be held. The teachers and staff at the School deployed a number of misdirection plays but the kids held firm and couldn't be tricked.

As is usually the case on stress-filled Mondays, I ate all through the day and didn't get any real exercise. I was just happy to make it through the day and have time with my daughter that evening. Tomorrow as a big day and Holly was so excited she went to bed at 7:00 pm only to awaken at 10:00 pm to come and visit me while I worked in my office. She then stayed up another couple of hours before finally getting back to sleep. I didn't do much better and hit the hay for a four-hour rest at about midnight.
