COLORADO’S FIRST BALLOT ISSUE DEBATED ON "THE AARON HARBER SHOW."

PETITION RIGHTS AMENDMENT ALREADY ON NOVEMBER 7TH BALLOT.

The Petition Rights Amendment (“PRA”) debate gets underway on "The Aaron Harber Show TM" this Friday, February 3rd, at 9:00 pm, and Sunday, February 5th, at 2:00 pm, on KBDI-TV Channel 12.  The proposal is the first to qualify for the November 7th General Election ballot and remains the only one to qualify to date.  The television program in its entirety is now available for viewing 24/7 at www.HarberTV.com in advance of the television broadcast.  Participants include

·   Doug Campbell, one of the authors of the proposal and a petition rights advocate,

·  Dennis Polhill, founder of the Initiative & Referendum Institute and a Senior Fellow at the Independence Institute as well as a supporter of the proposed amendment.

·   Katy Atkinson, the Republican political consultant who was instrumental in the effort to get Referendum C passed in 2005 and who opposes the Petition Rights Amendment.

·   Norma Anderson, the recently-retired State Senator who served in myriad capacities, including as the Senate Majority Leader, and who opposes the Petition Rights Amendment.

The Petition Rights Amendment calls for a simplification of the process by which citizens in Colorado can petition their government.  Its primary purpose is to eliminate the roadblocks sponsors believe have been put in place by elected officials to make access to the ballot more difficult.  The debate centers on whether or not there is a need for the PRA as well as what it actually would do.  “Given the likely number of ballot issues this year, the PRA debate is an important one to hold right now,” Harber opined.  To date, although no other issue yet has qualified for the November ballot, as many as a dozen possibilities already have been proposed.
